Description

During a survey for astrophotography conducted with the 0.4m Las Cumbres Observatory (LCO) in Tenerife, Spain, we were able to observe 22 redshifted galaxies, with 4/5 of them being previously undiscovered. Additionally, we believe we may have detected one undergoing a supernova. This endeavor was a collaborative effort between PACS e-Lab and myself. We utilized infrared, red, hydrogen-alpha, green, and blue filters. We faced some challenges during the processing as the infrared and hydrogen-alpha filters significantly dominated the image, making the procedure extremely difficult. This image of Messier 94 holds significant historical value, as we believe it is the first of its kind to be captured using an infrared filter from a 0.4m telescope dedicated to education and outreach. Can you identify the redshifted galaxies within it? We are eager to initiate this challenge for others who have access to similar telescopes as ours to spot redshifted galaxies as well!
